Technical Artist

A technical artist makes sure the shaders, VFX, and asset pipelines that look great in a demo still run at 60fps on the actual target hardware — the bridge role between an art team pushing visual quality and an engineering team protecting the frame budget. We build shader libraries, VFX systems, and LOD/import pipelines that let artists work fast without silently blowing the performance budget, and we set up the automated checks that catch an over-budget asset before it ships instead of after a QA pass flags a frame drop. Studios need this when art and engineering are fighting over the same performance budget, when VFX look great on a dev machine but tank on target hardware, or when there's no pipeline at all and every asset is a one-off. We leave behind tooling your artists keep using, not a pile of one-off shaders.

How We’d Approach This

A clear, staged plan — not a black box

  1. 1

Profile current assets and shaders on target hardware to find where the frame budget is actually going.

  2. 2

Build or fix one representative shader/VFX/pipeline piece and validate it hits budget on real devices.

  3. 3

Review the fix with art and engineering leads together so the tradeoffs are agreed, not imposed.

  4. 4

Roll the pattern out across the asset library with automated budget checks baked into the pipeline.

What You Get

Deliverables from this engagement

  • A performance-budgeted shader/VFX library for your engine
  • An automated asset-validation or LOD pipeline
  • A profiling report showing before/after frame cost
  • Pipeline documentation your art team can maintain
